From the days that the differences were brought up about blacks and whites, we still fight that same issue to this day. But in today’s world it’s about whether we speak or show our feelings about it. Invisible man just always tries to fit himself with the society around him. The people on the outside don’t see him for who he is, just what color he is and his backgrounds. He is in a group of brotherhood that helps out around the community and makes things better for other and a better place to live. When we discuss this book in class, I was always thinking of him to be in a fraternity. This is where everyone in the group shares interests and everyone respect each other for who they are no matter where they came from or who they are. This brotherhood he was in was all about setting differences aside, and working towards a common goal.

House of Spirits

The idea behind this book is all based on ideology. Everyday in class we would discuss this book but then always relate it to some type of ideology. The Truebas have some reputation to keep by having their name always on top of everyone. They had to have the status of wealth clean people. Esteban came from a struggling family, and alls he did through out his life growing up was to get his family name back. He worked hard as a gold miner and bought poor conditioned farms to operate. And then he had peasants work for him which became an important part of the book. When his one son works for him and he does harsh things them the workers. But this was only to keep his power and make him what he was.
Through out the book Esteban goes back and forth with power. His daughter with another man from a different class, to him having a son from the lower class. Then when the military comes to part he fights his way to get the most important things that are to him back. This book to me represents the ways of power and how it can work for you or against you. There is no higher class or lower class, its just how people treat the wealth at a high point and not brag it.

Duplessis

Question for her discussion-
Whenever im in the writing mood or write my best papers is when its late at night, nothing on but my computer in front of me. The ruler Kreon had issues with Anitgone with the crime that she was punished with. She was charged with a crime of taking his dead brother that had died in Kreons war and was not givin the proper death. He was just left on the battle grounds to collect dust and become dust himself. While all the great heros of the war and any war would be honored and givin a ceremony in their honor. Antigone takes it upon herself and tries to do the right thing for her brother and save him "soul" Sooner or later Kreon turns around and relizes what he has done with his people. He was after a win in the wars, and not thinking of the people of his city and what it has become. I think this is wrong and Kreon deserves to have been taken away and with a new ruler in place. He was selfesh but coming around made him think to himself what has happened instead of making things worse.

Ballad of Gregorio Cortez

This story about Cortez was an interesting story dealing with a man that all the sherrifs and townsmen try to get and take him away. But he always seemed to get away. He had a sligh attitude and seemed to be easy going about everything he did. He would have 10 horsemen chassing after him, and yet still has the time to stop and devise a trick to send them all a different way. It seemed that no one really knew who he was or where he came from, it was more of a story that people would tell about him whenever someone asked. You were either after the man, or tryin to figure out how to be like him (in some cases tryin to be like him to catch him).
When we were able to look at the video during class and analyze what was going on during certain parts of the movie, I was given a bigger and better idea of how the setting looked and what was going on. We looked at the part where there was a sherrif going to arrest him, along in the carrage another man that seemed to be kinda tricky with the translations. He was telling a short and simple translation, which made the situation even worse. We looked at the video from different angles and became much more interesting.

blood wedding

"Blood Wedding" by Federico Lorca, to me seems like a remake of “Romeo and Juliets play.” In the end Leonardo and the bride were together. But like Romeo and Juliet, Leonardo and the bridegroom would die in battle over a woman that they love. The hatred between the two families would cause a huge dramatic finish to the story. The death of the mothers husband and son would cause this anger that the mother would want the two to fight till the end. Separating the families completely.
The relationship between the bridegroom and the mother seemed to be more then a mother son figure. Because he was the only man of the house, she had to keep watch over him and he would do things without responsibility like taking actions for himself without a father figure to stop him. She never really wanted him to leave, I think because then she would be alone by herself. Because all through the story and talking about it in class, it was a predictable story to understand. Talking about it in class everyday made it a lot easier to understand and gave different views on how to look at the story.

Awakening Thoughts

During the reading day after day it seemed to go no where. This book took forever to get to the end. The only thing that i did not like about this book was that everytime i thought it was all coming together, the next day in class we would discuss this all and end up bringing so many more observations about the section. Parts with mrs. p, and why she decides to kill herself. What was going through everyones mind about this and why would the author decied to put in all these visions of the book. One with the swimming out to sea and standing out on the cliff. These parts of the books i feel are the feelings that the author just needed to say. She is mabey expressing something that she has gone through, and the swimming out to sea with no ending till she cant not go any longer. This whole book has symbols in it and to understand each reading it just takes a discussion to have interest in it.

Yellow Wallpaper

During the readins of the Yellow Wallpaper, i was able to come into this course as we were reading in about the middle of the book. But to be in class i had the chance to hear the stories that were involved with the book. The book seemed to alot of people that it was very confusing and it didnt seem to go anywhere. There was this lady that had this sickness and seemed to be traped in this attic for a certain amount of time. But while she was in the attic all she could do was stare at the yellow wallpaper in the room, and only try to figure out what was the design on it. Everyday in class we would discuss something new that was found about the wallpaper and i really didnt get the idea of what the purpose of this was. It was like a confusion of mind that the author had. Mabey the author was trying to say something but could get it out in words. Or there was a message in the wallpaper and the only way to find it out was to read what was in it, and this lady always had a mind of her own when it came to her thoughts. This reading had alot of depth into it and alot of symbols that could be found.
